Dave Portnoy Makes Waves Online

Dave Portnoy has once again grabbed the spotlight.

The founder of Barstool Sports made a cryptic post on Instagram following the announcement that Alex Cooper’s media enterprise had decided to discontinue Alix Earle’s “Hot Mess” podcast.

On Tuesday, Portnoy amused his audience by posting a screenshot of a 22-minute phone conversation with a contact saved as “Alixearlenew” in his phone.

The background music for the post was the iconic “Circle of Life.”

Portnoy playfully captioned the post, “You can stop tagging me. I know what needs to be done ,” echoing the words Cooper famously used on TikTok when Grace O’Malley departed from Barstool Sports the previous year.

However, Portnoy later updated his followers to clarify that he had not actually phoned Earle, 24, despite the rumors of a growing rift between her and Cooper.

Portnoy’s Mischievous Antics Stir Up Reactions

“I just thought it was funny,” he remarked, shrugging off the implications of the post.

Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia labeled Portnoy’s action as “iconic,” and numerous fans speculated that he was gearing up to retaliate for the loss of Grace.

It’s important to note that O’Malley, 26, left Barstool Sports in December 2024 to join Cooper’s podcast network.

Cooper herself had moved on from Portnoy’s company three years earlier to ink a deal with Spotify, and recently she transitioned to SiriusXM in a lucrative $125 million agreement.

In 2023, as a part of her media company Trending, Cooper launched her Unwell podcast network and brought Earle on board. Earle’s podcast, which premiered in September 2023, aired its latest episode on February 20.

Changes in Cooper’s Media Landscape

According to a report by Variety on Tuesday, Cooper’s company has relinquished the rights to “Hot Mess,” allowing Earle to seek new ventures.

Representatives for Cooper and Earle have not yet responded to inquiries for comments from Page Six.

This month, speculation about a feud between the two was fueled when Earle reportedly missed Cooper’s Super Bowl 2025 party.

Reddit users also pointed out that Cooper’s company had stopped promoting Earle’s podcast episodes on social media platforms.

TJ Earle, Alix’s father, hinted in a December 2024 podcast episode that his daughter had been involved in a professional disagreement. He mentioned that it was his duty to “have tough conversations with people” regarding Alix’s potential and had recently addressed a “business situation.”
