Billy Eichner Gears Up for Holiday Laughter with Amazon

Billy Eichner is already feeling festive about the next Christmas season.

The actor from “Mufasa: The Lion King” has recently penned a Christmas comedy script that Amazon snapped up.

Born in Queens and aged 46, Eichner is collaborating on this new venture with renowned playwright and “Sister Act” writer, Paul Rudnick.

In addition to writing, Eichner is set to act in the film.

The comedy revolves around a mother and her son from New York City who visit the son’s peculiar brother in a quaint Vermont town for Christmas, Eichner described.

(For the role of the mother, wouldn’t Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep, Kathy Bates, or Helen Mirren be perfect?)

Clearing Up Bar Mitzvah Rumors

While attending the Broadway premiere of “Gypsy,” the “Parks and Recreation” former cast member cleared up a frequent misunderstanding about the theme of his bar mitzvah.

Contrary to popular belief that it was Madonna-themed, Eichner clarified, “It was more like Broadway meets pop music because I couldn’t make up my mind.”

“There was a life-sized airbrushed portrait of Madonna on one side of the DJ booth and a similarly gigantic airbrushed image of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ on the other,” he detailed.

Did His Parents Know He Was Gay?

When asked if his parents realized he was gay based on the theme of his party, Eichner joked, “I think they figured it out way earlier when I was about 5 years old, pretending to be ‘Wonder Woman.’”

The starry Broadway event also saw appearances from celebrities like Lea Michele, Jonathan Groff, Laverne Cox, Iman, Rosie Perez, and David Hyde Pierce from “Frasier.”

Director George C. Wolfe Debunks Old Hollywood Saying

Also present at the event, director George C. Wolfe expressed his disagreement with the famous W.C. Fields saying about avoiding working with dogs and kids.

Wolfe, who is directing “Gypsy,” which features both dogs and children, shared, “All of them have been fantastic, so he was definitely mistaken!”
