“As long as you are doing your best, that’s all that matters,” the actress and mother of two shares with PEOPLE.

Tamera Mowry-Housley, who has been a working mother for over ten years, admits that some days are better than others.

“Some days you nail it and feel like ‘Supermom,’ and then there are days when things just don’t fall into place because life isn’t perfect,” the mother of 11-year-old son Aden and 9-year-old daughter Ariah tells PEOPLE. “You have to just embrace the changes, show love, and push through.”

In her latest Hallmark movie, Scouting for Christmas, Mowry-Housley portrays Angela, a single mother who juggles her real estate career with her commitment to take her 10-year-old daughter Brooklyn to her activities like Sunny Scouts on time.

Angela never quits, according to Mowry. “There are moms who can be there every moment for their kids, which is amazing. Then there are working moms who strive to make ends meet while chasing our dreams. Everyone has their path, and you need to do what’s best for you and your family. But doing your best is always enough,” she explains.

Angela also doesn’t let a particularly critical troop mom—who would send a harsh email to a teacher over an A- grade—affect her.

“She stands her ground and says, ‘Hey, I’m doing my best. I love my child, and we’re handling this,'” Mowry says. “Because spending a lot of time together and having quality time are not the same. It’s about being present and truly engaging—that’s what really counts.”

Mowry has faced her own share of criticism from other mothers due to her career commitments.

“I’ve definitely felt that pressure, and when I was acting, I thought of a mom who behaves that way,” she mentions. “I call them ‘momsters,’ moms who think their way is the only way. What I appreciate about this film is that it challenges that notion. I wanted to show that it’s okay for working moms. Balance is never perfect.”

The Sister, Sister alum appreciates that Scouting for Christmas represents “what a modern family looks like.”

“It’s about a mom doing whatever it takes to ensure her daughter thrives after a divorce,” Mowry explains. “The love she has for her daughter is her top priority.”

Brooklyn also wants the best for her mother, attempting to set Angela up with the owner of her favorite bakery. “Despite Angela’s previous heartbreaks, she’s open to the possibility of a new romance,” the Twitches star adds.

Playing Angela also allowed Mowry to fulfill a childhood dream. “I’ve always wanted to be a Girl Scout,” she confesses. “I’ve always wanted to say, ‘Scout’s honor.’ I’ve always wanted to wear the sash and the cute beret. So, at least I got to play a mom of a scout.”

Mowry acknowledges that the Oct. 20 premiere date for Scouting for Christmas might seem early to start celebrating the holiday season, “but in my heart, I’m ready,” she claims. “Hallmark and Mariah Carey really know how to get you into the holiday spirit.”
